Over a spring weekend in 1967, April 28-30, a conference was held on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. This is usually characterized as "The First Objectivist Conference". It was announced in the February 1967 issue of The Objectivist. Over 300 people attended. The registration fee was $10.00. The student newspaper of UVA carried a story about the conference accompanied by an article by a professor in the Philosophy Department denouncing Objectivism.
