This workshop reviewed the aesthetic premises and musical thesis of Deryck Cooke as presented in his book The Language of Music (1959). Part I reviewed some basic concepts in music theory; Part II included an overview of the aesthetic ideas of Ayn Rand and Deryck Cooke plus a comparison of their ideas to opposing ones; Part III demonstrated Cooke’s specific musical observations and ideas through recorded examples.
