At the Cutting Edge of Artificial Intelligence: A Conversation with Chad Mills Ph.D.

Elan Journo, Chad Mills

Presented at: ARI Roundtable

Date: May 22, 2021

Artificial intelligence is everywhere. Inspiring advances in AI are assisting scientific research, detecting fraud, blocking spam, shaping social media feeds, protecting against ransomware attacks, and opening the way to self-driving cars.

But what is AI? Can machines really “learn” and be “intelligent”? What can we expect from an AI-enabled future? And how should we evaluate the fears, often dramatized in sci-fi, that AI might surpass human intelligence and become a threat?

Join us for a conversation with Chad Mills, Ph.D., an expert on AI, machine learning engineering, and computational linguistics. Before joining the AI startup Grammarly, Dr. Mills  led machine-learning and data science teams at Facebook, Microsoft and other companies. We’ll discuss—in layman’s terms—how AI works; emerging applications of AI and its current limitations; and Dr. Mills’s work, education (including his studies at the Objectivist Academic Center), and the impact of Ayn Rand’s ideas on his life.
