Changing the Debate: How to Move from an Entitlement State to a Free Market
Date:
Jun 30, 2012
Objectivists know that the entitlement state is an immoral institution that needs to be abolished. But most Americans regard this as unthinkable. Why? What ideas have made the entitlement state sacrosanct? Why haven’t traditional arguments against wealth redistribution—e.g., “Social Security is theft”—been effective? How do we convince Americans that need truly isn’t a claim on other people’s wealth? In this talk, Don Watkins discusses how to change the debate, so that instead of bickering over how to save entitlements we can start talking about how to end them.
