The belief that climate change will destroy the world in our lifetime is having a real psychological toll, especially on young people. In 2017, the American Psychological Society recognized “climate anxiety” as a real and growing condition. A perfect expression of this apocalyptic outlook is the Netflix film “Don’t Look Up”—a satirical disaster flick in which a comet literally destroys the earth. The film was written as an allegory for climate change, and it was recently nominated in four Academy Award categories including Best Picture. Join Elan Journo and Keith Lockitch as they discuss the film and the fever pitch of apocalyptic thinking it expresses.
