Bruce Ames

Presented at: TJS 1989

Date: Aug 06, 1989

This lecture discusses the known and likely causes of cancer, including mutagens and carcinogens that are widely found In the natural environment. It explains why the carcinogenic hazards from current levels of pesticide residues or water pollution are likely to be of minimal concern relative to the background levels emanating from natural substances, and why one cannot say whether even these natural exposures are likely to be of major rather than minor importance.
