Home Education: A Rational Alternative

Gail Withrow

Presented at: TOC 1993

Date: Oct 29, 1993

This workshop presented the reasons why homeschooling, if approached objectively, can achieve the purpose of a proper education. Education is “the systematic training of the conceptual faculty of the young by means of supplying in essentials both its content and method.” The biggest cost of homeschooling is time. It requires a commitment to fulfill the educational needs of children, including finding other teachers for specialized subjects that are beyond the parents’ training. The choice to educate at home can be extremely rewarding and successful if parents are prepared to accept the responsibility inherent in developing a young mind.
