In Defense of Monopolies: How Antitrust Criminalizes Business Strategy

Ryan Krause

Presented at: OCON 2015

Date: Jul 03, 2015

This talk advances the idea that in a free, capitalistic society--as well as in variations thereof--non-coercive, trade-based monopolies can and do exist. The talk argues that such monopolies are a benevolent economic force for all partners in trade (such as customers and suppliers) and that business strategy is, at its root, a plan for achieving a monopoly. The talk also contends that by targeting real and imagined monopolies, antitrust law criminalizes business strategy.
