Many people take the idea of privilege as a given. There are however, reasons to be skeptical that that is the case. Many immigrants to the United States for example, started with next to nothing, but through their own hard work were able to succeed.

On the other hand, there are advantages, such as the wealth and location of one’s parents, which are not chosen. Are those things a privilege? Does the concept of privilege only apply in specific context? How does it apply to issues of race?
