Isaac Newton: Father of Modern Science
Date:
Aug 12, 1995
What Plato and Aristotle are to philosophy, Isaac Newton is to physics. Newton created the first fully integrated theory of the physical world-thereby ushering in the modern scientific era. In this course Mr. Harriman surveys the fundamental ideas of Newton's physics, and discusses the mathematical and empirical method that made possible their discovery. Topics include the state of physics prior to Newton; Newton's development of the calculus; his discoveries in optics; his universal laws of motion and gravitation. No background in college-level physics or math is required for this course.
