Multiculturalism as Primitive Tribalism
Date:
Nov 02, 2018
Multiculturalism is usually presented as simply an appreciation for, and tolerance of, other cultures. Yet in essence, it represents a primitive, anti-conceptual form of tribalism. Multiculturalism is the collectivist belief that the individual’s identity is determined by the tribe to which he belongs. And it is the egalitarian belief, not merely that no tribe’s “culture” is to be judged as good or bad, but that the very idea of good and bad—the very discrimination between value and disvalue—is “oppressive.”
