Robert Schumann was the embodiment of the Romantic composer, thoroughly committed intellectually and emotionally to the idea of music being composed to register the feelings, thoughts and impressions garnered by a sensitive spirit on its journey through life. This presentation examines several different examples from the solo piano pieces and the songs, with a focus on Schumann's highly original shorter works.
