In any crisis situation, misinformation spreads quickly and widely, and the current pandemic is no exception. The problem is bad enough when rumors spread among citizens; it’s worse when the gatekeepers of information fail to do their jobs.
How can those of us who are neither journalists nor specialists in the relevant fields assess claims about those fields that are reported by journalists? How can we do this while still valuing what journalists and other specialists contribute to human knowledge? How can philosophy guide us in making these assessments?
