The Legal Challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)
Date:
Jun 30, 2012
This term, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide the constitutionality of two key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as Obamacare). At issue in the case, among other things, is whether the constitution authorizes Congress to compel individuals to purchase health insurance (and, if not, whether the entire Act must be invalidated or only the individual mandate) and whether the federal government can use its spending power to force the states to expand coverage under Medicaid. Panelists explain the legal issues in the case and the Supreme Court’s decision and analyze the impact of the decision from cultural, medical and legal standpoints.
