This lecture examines the origin and significance of the sculpture of Ancient Greece in the light of the role of fundamental philosophical ideas in history. To help the student properly evaluate the works presented, Miss Shaw identifiesspecific visual characteristics in sculpture that reveal underlying philosophicalideas. The slide presentation enables the student to concretize the changing values of the Greeks throughout the spectacular rise and fall of Greek civilization. This examination of Greek sculpture dramatically demonstrates the need for man to hold a heroic concept of himself within the context of a rational philosophy.
