The Role of Art Appreciation in a Child’s Education

Luc Travers

Presented at: ATLOSCon 2016

Date: May 26, 2016

Art appreciation, as taught in Touching The Art, plays a powerful role in a child’s education. This class will look at how the process of learning to “read” an artwork develops a child’s mind—from creative ability to logical thinking skills and from careful observation to forming clear abstractions. It will also look at how the content of the visual arts can introduce students to a greater understanding of others and, especially, of themselves.
