Anthem as Ayn Rand's Hymn to Man's Ego
Date:
Apr 10, 2020
This session examines Anthem's central hero, Equality 7-2521, and what he regards initially as his "curse": his intense desire to know and value independently in a world that regards this as the cardinal evil. The session highlights both how and why his view of his "curse" changes over the course of the story, culminating with a discussion of the final two chapters, which Ayn Rand regarded as containing the book's actual anthem to man's ego.
