The Continuing Relevance of Anthem
Date:
Apr 17, 2020
Anthem, though written over ten years before Orwell’s 1984, is often read as a kind of Orwellian warning against totalitarian collectivism. But is it much more than a warning against collectivism. It’s a dramatization of the precious value of the individual, and of the way in which collectivism negates the individual by subordinating him to the group. This session explores the lessons that Anthem still has to teach us today.
