The Spiralarchy of Knowledge
Date:
May 26, 2016
Objectivists are generally familiar with Rand's ideas of the hierarchy of knowledge and the spiral theory of knowledge, which are held to be related but distinct. Ash will show that they are actually more tightly integrated than is usually appreciated and that this is just one instance of a much broader and deeper phenomenon. Ash refers to this phenomenon as spiralarchy. Attendees will examine several analogous organizations of systems that give rise to the spiralarchy of knowledge at the individual level (from evolutionary biology to neurology to the mechanics of perceptual awareness) and at a societal level (from business and technology to the arts). This idea can be profitably applied to any field, whether theoretical, scientific, artistic, commercial, or technical.
